Hi, I’m Christan!

The teacher behind Flying Through Phonics.

I’m a North Texas reading teacher and mom of two young kids. I’m obsessed with structured literacy, like UFLI Foundations, because I have seen firsthand the incredible transformations…  struggling can become confident readers, even against all odds!

My goal is to save you time by providing research-based, engaging lessons and activities that improve reading outcomes. I create them to match your scope and sequence, so it’s one less thing you have to worry about. I’m an early bird, so you can find me in my home office at 5 am almost every day creating resources just for you!

Sometimes a great reading curriculum just isn't enough for a real classroom. And the teachers don't have the time to adapt yet another set of materials.

When I started using the UFLI Foundations program, it was love-at-first-lesson: the compact teacher’s manual, simple and consistent structure, and the free online slides, games, and passages.

But there were a few things missing.

I needed no-prep activities that were more than just busy work, small group lessons and centers that targeted specific skills, decodable resources that truly followed the scope and sequence.
So I started making what I couldn’t find. And as it turned out- other teachers needed these things, too! And Flying Through Phonics was born!

The resources I couldn’t find? Now I make them for you.

Today, making resources for teachers is one of the greatest honors of my work. That’s why every resource I create is built around three non-negotiables: it must align with the UFLI scope & sequence, be fully decodable, and give students purposeful practice. No fluff, no filler, no “close enough”. If it doesn’t pass all three, it doesn’t get published. Because your time and your students’ time are too valuable for anything less.

Life Off the Laptop

I have two kids, Demi (3) and Cameron (1), and I’m married to Michael, a high school welding teacher. We live a stroller-push from a beautiful park, so you will often find us chasing kids around the playground.

In my (limited) free time, I’m trying to keep my plants alive and reading true crime thrillers. What’s on my FYP? A mix of BookTok, Claude tips, advice on surviving the toddler era, millennial throwbacks, and, of course, all the SoR content from my favorite teacher influencers.
